About This Piece

Some knives begin with a design.

Others begin with a gift.

This handcrafted hunter started with a Father's Day present from KC, who selected the handle material specifically because he knew Jeff would appreciate its unique appearance and potential. The result became a knife that celebrates both craftsmanship and family.

The blade is crafted from CPM 154 stainless steel and finished to a brilliant mirror polish. Known for its excellent edge retention, corrosion resistance, and toughness, CPM 154 is a premium blade steel that combines performance with a refined appearance.

The handle features a striking combination of deep cobalt-blue resin and copper honeycomb patterning. Rather than using separate materials, the handle began as a single block selected by KC and carefully oriented during construction to showcase the dramatic contrast between the vivid blue sections and the intricate honeycomb structure. The result is a handle that appears to change character depending on the angle from which it is viewed.

A hand-engraved nickel silver bolster provides an elegant transition between blade and handle while adding a touch of traditional craftsmanship. Along the spine, detailed hand filework continues a signature element found throughout Jeff's work and reflects the attention devoted to every stage of the build.

Compact, colorful, and highly distinctive, this knife combines premium materials, thoughtful design, and personal meaning into a piece that is both practical and memorable.

Maker's Note:

KC picked out the handle material for me as a Father's Day gift. The moment I saw it, I knew it deserved to become a knife. The challenge was figuring out how to orient the material so both the honeycomb pattern and the deep blue color could be appreciated. Sometimes the material tells you exactly what it wants to become.
