About This Piece
Every craftsman remembers the early pieces.
Not because they were perfect — but because they were the beginning of something. This knife was only the second blade Jeff ever made, created long before the collection grew into what it is today. Looking back at it now, you can still see the foundation of the craftsmanship that would follow: clean lines, practical design, and attention to how a knife should feel in the hand.
The blade carries a straightforward working profile — simple, solid, and built with purpose rather than excess. A hand-engraved bolster adds an early glimpse into the engraving work that would later become one of Jeff’s signature strengths, while the black Micarta scales give the knife a dependable, no-nonsense feel.
Even in these early stages, the priorities were already there:
balance, grip, control, and durability.
There’s something meaningful about first projects like this. They capture the point where curiosity turns into craft — where hours at the bench begin becoming experience, and experience slowly becomes mastery.
This knife marks the beginning of that journey.

Maker’s Note
“You learn something from every knife you make. Looking back at the early ones reminds me where the journey started — and how much there still is to learn.”
