About This Piece
Some wedding rings begin with gold.
This one began with a small wooden box.
Years earlier, that box held an engagement ring.
It was the box opened during one of life's most unforgettable moments—the moment a question was asked, and the answer was "Yes."
When it came time to commission a wedding band, the customer brought Jeff Loehr something unusual.
Not a sketch.
Not a photograph.
Not a gemstone.
He brought the box.
His request was simple.
"Can you make this part of my wedding ring?"
The answer...
"Probably."
The challenge, however, was far from simple.
The wood from the original box could never be replaced. Every cut had to be exact. Every measurement had to be right the first time.
Jeff designed the ring around the material rather than forcing the material into the design.
Instead of a thin silver band that would leave the wood vulnerable, he engineered three separate sterling silver bands. The center band created a protected channel, while the outer bands formed durable borders that shield the wood from everyday wear.
From the original proposal box, two perfectly matched strips were carefully cut and permanently bonded into the channel. Once cured, the wood was hand-shaped flush with the silver before being sealed to protect it for years to come.
The finished ring is more than sterling silver and wood.
It is a reminder.
A reminder of the day two lives changed forever.
Every scratch in the old box...
Every grain in the wood...
Every glance at the ring...
Points back to a single word.
Yes.
